Jewish weddings take a little more organising in getting the harp set up upstairs in a synagogue, so we hope that the following points are useful (depending on your synagogue and it's wedding format):
- We would start playing when the guests arrive (about 45 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony), until the prayers. (approx 25 minutes)
- On a cue (1) from one of the ushers, (whom we would like to meet when we arrive so that we know who to look for!) we then start playing in the wedding party and stop when they are settled around the chuppa.
- On a cue (2) from one of the ushers we play the bride in. We are happy to play as she walks around the groom, however the Rabbi may wish to sing her round. Either way, you should check with the Rabbi beforehand. If you want the rabbi to sing, we would like a clear cue (3) to stop playing. If you want us to play we will need a cue (3) on the brides 6th time round, as it is difficult to count and play. Visibility can be difficult for us if we are upstairs so we do need a reliable person to discreetly cue us!
- After the smashing of the glass, usually 2-3 pieces are required for during the signing.
- We aim to arrive at a synagogue 1 1/4 before the start time of the ceremony, (1/2 hour prior to the arrival of the guests.)
- It would be appreciated if the ushers could be there to help us move the harp upstairs, and also help move the harp back downstairs at the end. Also that the person nominated to cue us can introduce themselves to us when we set up.
- Please check your choices of music with the rabbi, including the pieces for the signing.
- We need a minimum space of 7'x5' to set up.
