As a general rule music for wedding breakfasts breaks up into the following 3 separate sections:
  1. If you are having a civil wedding there is the ceremony itself. This involves playing as guests arrive, a processional as the bride makes her entrance, during the signing of the register, and a recessional as you leave the room.

  2. Drinks reception after the service (usually whilst photos are happening, as there can be general milling around for the guests).

  3. During the wedding breakfast.

Please note that some Registrars don't allow music which can have "religious" associations to be played at a civil wedding ceremony. This includes the traditional wedding marches Here Comes the Bride by Wagner, Wedding March by Mendlessohn and Ave Maria by Gounod. There is no "law" saying you cannot have this music if you wish, it is purely up to the Registrar's personal taste. So if you would like these pieces to be played you will have to discuss this in advance and maybe persuade the Registrar!
